Following on the last post regarding the push for paid sick leave comes this press release from the Department of Labor, which is seeking comments from the public on the decade-old regulations implementing the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Whenever an administrative agency such as the Department of Labor seeks to amend or implement regulations concerning federal legislation over which it’s been given oversight authority, it must (usually) first publish a request for information (RFI), and seek public input. Proposed drafts of regulations will also be published, once written, and comments sought on the proposals. Public input is a crucial component of the administrative regulation process, and it’s the key opportunity for those most affected by the pending regulations to have their voices and concerns heard.
The deadline for receipt of comments is February 2, 2007.
