Welcome to my new blog dedicated to the plaintiff’s employment law portion of my law practice!
A bit about me: I am a sole practitioner - or, as I prefer, an independent lawyer - practicing in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in state and federal courts and before agencies with jurisdiction over various legal issues pertaining to South Carolina workers and consumers. In my prior position, as a staff attorney for Horry County for nine years, I indulged my passion for public service in a quite different way. Ultimately, I found that I craved a new approach towards serving the public and longed for the one-on-one flow of advocacy and counseling services that takes place between lawyer and client. While I could have transferred those government skills into corporate and business work, I found my heart just wasn’t in it - I longed to help people, as individuals, in their struggles with the nameless and faceless entities in their lives: their creditors, the companies with which they did business, and, of course, their employers.
About my practice: In my practice, I focus on the following areas of employment law:
• Family & Medical Leave Act
• Fair Labor Standards Act
• Americans with Disabilities (in the employment context)
• Title VII (discrimination/harassment on the basis of protected class)
• Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)
• Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
• Equal Pay Act
• State law wage claims, harassment/discrimination claims, and workplace/employee handbook claims
In addition to my employment work for plaintiffs, I also practice in the areas of consumer bankruptcy, consumer credit/Truth in Lending, and estate planning.
